#1 · Jun 17, 2013 Have just bought a 1973 1300 beetle, has been changed to a convertible and had most of a wizard kit put on it, still has original doors and bonnet. Running a 1600cc unleaded conversion kit two twin solex 40mm carbs 4 tip Monza exhaust system. All work so far done by previous owner, I am simply finishing her up.

I would still like to know the timing marks and how to remove the timing belt ON 2003 VW BEETLE?
Set the crank at a few degrees before TDC, turn engine clockwise until it hits the stop, mark the pulley. Turn the engine counterclockwise until it hits the stop, mark the pulley. TDC should be 1/2 way in between - right? This is what I get. Neither of the factory marks is anyway near TDC as determined by as determined by this method.
