I had a mono R80 amongst a spread of R75s, R90s and R100s. Very smooth motor, rather 'soft' feeling though, but for me the brakes, suspension and seat were significantly better than the twin shock bikes. I traded my K100RS in on a new one and I had an R100 and R100S at the same time. I thought the mono RT was a better rider than the R100s.

As far as other advantages/disadvantages, two universal joints in the paralever vs. only one in the monolever. The paralever GS universals have a poor reputation for longevity, apparently due to the more extreme angles the swingarm moves through than the other paralever bikes.
