The Timbavati Private Game Reserve is home to 40 species of mammal including Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhino, often referred to as the Big Five. Birdlife is prolific with 360 species of bird making the Timbavati a bird lover's paradise. Guests can see more species of bird in one day here than what is normally possible in a lifetime.

Surprisingly, white lion cubs were also born to the Shishangaan pride in the Nwanetsi Area of the Kruger National Park in 2014 and 2015. Close to Singita Lebombo in the East of the Kruger, these cubs were born quite a long way away from the Timbavati. Whilst none of the Timbavati cubs survived, one Shishangaan white lion is still alive today.

Whilst there are isolated reports from time to time of white lion sightings in the Kruger National Park and there are many white lions bred in captivity and semi- captivity both locally and abroad, the Timbavati Private Nature remains the only reserve in the world (as far as we know) where wild white lions occur regularly and naturally.

A photo taken last month (Jan 2016) of Kings Camp's Giraffe pride with its striking white lioness. In September 2014 a white lion cub was spotted in the Singtia Kruger National Park.This private concession lies far to the east of TImbavati within the main national park, and it was the first time that white lions had been sighted outside of the Greater TImbavati Region.

A male white lion weighs up to 530 pounds and a female up to 400 pounds. The male white lion is up to 10 feet long and 4 feet high and up to 6 feet long and 3.6 feet for females. Their average lifespan is about 18 years. In the wild, the female lion, the lioness, gives birth to 2-4 cubs every two years.
